Wet Dreams, 2019

My large-scale paintings/installations and freestanding/floating cutout figures consider the interplay of abstraction and realism through mixed media figuration. My mediums of choice are oil pastel, acrylic, and watercolor on paper.

In Wet Dreams, I explore magical realism. In this installation, floating figures are suspended in space, often floating in and out of visibility as they fade into the background.

It’s oh so quiet when she cuts loose, 2021

Art making is alchemy; there is no time, only the present moment where I capture the past and invent the future by transmuting grief, love, longing…

In It’s oh so quiet when she cuts loose, screaming figures emerge from the chaos.

In my work, I consider elements like air, fire, and water to depict transformation.

Moonlight, 2021

In Moonlight, I explore self-object constancy and identity im/permanence: the practice of holding an unchangeable identity of myself despite the ephemeral fluidity of life.

When I look at my secret colors, I feel like bursting into tears, 2023

My paintings are portals.
In Secret Colors, I explore temporal loops through a series of self-portraits:

Two versions of myself as ‘Saturn devouring his son’ and a self-portrait with a past lover.

I am fascinated with time and memory, as the cyclical nature of life is inescapable.

400 Acres (Stairway to Noah Davis), 2022

In 400 Acres, architecture is a psychological construct. With home as a fixed point, it is a symbol of permanence in a world of impermanence.

What I’ll pursue in the MFA program

In earning my MFA, I hope to increase the scale and materiality of my work. Please see my artistic influences here.

As I work larger, I'd like to advance my construction, with a focus on:

  • Woodworking

  • Metalworking

  • 3D printing

  • Engineering (I want to explore mechanical movement within my paintings)

Additionally, I will focus more on storytelling through paintings, installations, and film.

More about me
In addition to my art practice, my curatorial efforts include founding Lovers Gallery in 2021 to strengthen my relationships with art world colleagues and collectors. Lovers’ sole purpose is to create spaces for artists and art lovers to experience art/making.

Since 2021, Lovers has featured work by many black and brown artists in exhibitions in New York and New Jersey.
